What is a Podcast?
Put simply, a Podcast is a way of
subscribing to audio or video content over the Internet by
using RSS and XML Technology. A podcast is basically a
'feed' containing ‘episodes’.
Podcast episodes can be either audio or
video based.
Automation - subscribing rather than downloading
So, a podcast is not just a downloadable
audio or video file but rather an 'automated feed'
that you subscribe to. New episodes can be published and
distributed by the content provider and users get the
update automatically
Convenience - make your content accessible and
mobile
Podcasts can be downloaded then played
anytime you wish on PC or Mac using free software such as
iTunes. Podcasts can also be synced
to many mp3 players, portable devices, mobile phones as
well as iPod and iPhone
Flexibility - true multimedia
With Enhanced
Podcasts, episodes can also feature
'chapters'.
Chapters can contain graphics, images, logos, text
titles and even web-links. When listening to a podcast a
user can be linked directly to external web-pages or file
downloads such as PDF's, powerpoints or word documents.
Images and slides can be syncronised in time with audio so
that rich multimedia presentations can be achieved
